ST. PETERSBURG, FL – For the first time, The Florida Orchestra will bring the music of influential rapper Drake mixed with Tchaikovsky’s famed Fifth Symphony to the Mahaffey Theater. Tchaikovsky X Drake, created and conducted by Steve Hackman, is performed one night only on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2023 at 8 pm. Tickets on sale now at FloridaOrchestra.org.
The innovative program features rapper Jecorey Arthur and three vocalists to blend the music of two composer-romanticists separated by nearly a century. In every way imaginable, 22 of Drake’s greatest hits are fused with Tchaikovsky’s epic Fifth Symphony, a triumphant portrayal of the composer’s struggle with fate, performed live by The Florida Orchestra. Steve Hackman: Trained at the elite level classically, he is a visionary composer, conductor, producer, DJ, songwriter, singer and pianist. Jecorey Arthur: The award-winning teacher and creator is a music and sociology professor at Simmons College of Kentucky. He most recently earned the title of councilman as the youngest elected official in Louisville history. He has performed with the Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Dallas and San Diego symphonies, among others.
