SARASOTA, FL (October 19, 2023) — After an extensive nationwide search, philanthropic leader Nelle S. Miller has been named President & Chief Executive Officer of All Faiths Food Bank (AFFB), the only food bank and the largest hunger relief organization in Sarasota and DeSoto counties. She will succeed longtime CEO Sandra Frank, who announced her intention to retire in March.
As President & CEO, Miller will have the opportunity to actualize a comprehensive vision – set forth by Sandra Frank – for the central role AFFB plays in providing healthy solutions to end hunger in its service area, across Florida and within the Feeding America network. Miller returns to All Faiths Food Bank after having served on the AFFB Board from 2016-2021, including service as Chair of the Board from 2018-2020, during which time she assisted in the development of a succession plan for the organization.
“The CEO search committee has invested heavily in ensuring we found the right leader to take us forward. This process involved a nationwide search, which started when Sandra Frank announced her intention to retire,” said Terri Vitale, Chair of the Board of Directors. “Since we initiated the search, we’ve engaged with candidates versed in both nonprofit and food banking sectors and reviewed the qualifications of numerous professionals; we were very pleased that Nelle Miller surfaced as our top candidate.”
“For the past 12 years, it has been my great honor and privilege to lead this incredible organization and I will cherish my final months at the helm,” said Frank. “My top priority – ever since I first entertained the thought of retiring several years ago – has been to ensure that All Faiths and its new President & CEO would be set up for success. I was so thrilled to learn of the search committee’s decision and look forward to seeing Nelle’s impact on the organization and communities we serve in the coming years.”
Miller has a deep background in the nonprofit world of Sarasota and Desoto counties and the issues of hunger, health and nutrition, and access to healthy food have been at the heart of the philanthropic work she has done in the region. She believes that ending hunger not only has to be the number one issue addressed by every community but that access to healthy and nutritious food is an inalienable right, especially with regard to children.
“I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve our community as part of the All Faiths Food Bank team,” said Miller. “Hunger and nutrition need to be at the nexus of every conversation that we have about making sure that our entire community has what they need to thrive and move forward in their lives in a healthy, respectful and equitable way.”
For over 20 years, Miller has served the Sarasota community as the Board Chair of many leading philanthropic organizations and human services agencies. Miller is currently serving as the Interim CEO of Unidos Now. Last year, she acted as Interim President and CEO of JFCS of the Suncoast. She is currently Board Chair of the Education Foundation of Sarasota County and is an Advisory Board member for the Boxser Diversity Initiative. Additionally, she has been Board Chair of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, Glasser Schoenbaum Human Services Center, and the Sarasota-Manatee Jewish Federation, among others. She has a BA from Brandeis University.
Miller will assume her responsibilities as President & CEO of All Faiths Food Bank on January 3, 2024.
