This family favorite fairytale about a stuff velveteen bunny rabbit who hopes to become real through the magic of a child’s love has been captivating audiences for decades. Ms. Allard’s script gives a production team infinite options for imaginative fun and entertainment. There will be high-energy ‘horseplay’, hijinks, and frivolity along with themes of self-worth and finding value through those that love us. It is a tale that questions what it means to be real; as the Skin Horse says, “Real isn’t how you’re made. It’s a thing that happens to you.”
Like all Shark Theatre productions, our performance of The Velveteen Rabbit will be creative, innovative, and original. This piece will be presented on an in-the-round stage, in our wonderfully versatile Black Box theatre. An arena style stage is closer and more welcoming space; combined with the spry nature of the show, the atmosphere will be electric. Bring the whole family as it is sure to be wildly entertaining for kids of all ages!
Nature Coast Technical High School’s Shark Theatre has been in operation since the school’s founding in 2003. For me past three years, the theatre has been led by Jonathan Thomas. Prior to this, he’s worked for many years in the theatre industry, mostly in Chicago. Shark Theatre has had recent success with Steel Magnolias, Cinderella and Mamma Mia!.
We are proud to be a student run theatre. On AND off stage. The technical side is managed by the school’s technical theatre class. Shark Theatre believes that theatre in the ultimate collaborative art. Students feel comfortable not only making minor suggestions (the majority of this press release was written by a student) but know they can make major decisions (a major detail of the show was suggested by a student). Great theatre is made by the right group of collaborators, at any level.
