Bradenton, Fla. (September 19, 2023) – The Office of Angelina “Angel” Colonneso, Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller for Manatee County Division of Inspector General, recently underwent a peer review for the division’s internal auditing practices.
The division earned the highest mark as a result of the review.
“Routine peer reviews are crucial to maintain the highest standards of transparency, efficiency, and accountability in local government,” said Angel Colonneso, Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller for Manatee County. “I am proud to report that the Division of Inspector General received the highest marks possible on their recent peer review.”
This process, which takes place every three years, is designed to ensure the Division of Inspector General’s internal auditing system of quality of control is in compliance with the Government Auditing Standards issued by the Comptroller General of the United States and in accordance with the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing issued by the Institute of Internal Auditors.
The assessment, conducted by CS&L CPAs, determined for the period of April 1, 2019, through March 31, 2022, that the division’s system of quality control provides reasonable assurance of performing and reporting with all applicable professional standards in all material respects. CS&L CPAs performed tests that included a review of the division’s quality control policies and procedures, engagement reports, engagement documentation, and other necessary documents.
The Division of Inspector General, formally known as Internal Audit, provides independent, objective assurance and consulting services that are designed to add value and improve the operations of Manatee County Government by providing necessary recommendations.
The division provides financial, compliance, and operational/performance audit services. Additionally, the division investigates fraud, irregularities, and abuse allegations.
