SARASOTA, FL – Safe Children Coalition (SCC), the lead community-based care organization for Florida’s Circuit 12 (Sarasota, Manatee and DeSoto counties), recently received two grants that will support its efforts to protect and provide for children in in care as well as children recently returned to their biological parents.
A grant of $5,000 from Church of the Redeemer’s Episcopal Thrift House will be used to help foster families with expenses such as babysitting, small home repairs, car seats, or household goods such as beds or other furniture items, bedding, or towels. Many of the foster families served by SCC do not have the support systems or funds to cover these expenses; contributions from the community help to provide for the diverse needs of our region’s foster families.
Often, when children in the child welfare system are reunited with their biological parent(s), there is an immediate need for food or other assistance while they await other benefits. A grant of $1,000 from the Michael Saunders & Company Foundation will directly assist these parents with basic and emergency needs as they strive to provide their children with a safe and well-stocked home.
“While the largest percentage of our funding comes in the form of grants from the state and the counties we serve, there are other critical needs that are met only through the compassion and generosity of local foundations, organizations and caring individuals,” said Brena Slater, president and CEO of Safe Children Coalition. “We are grateful for the ongoing support of Church of the Redeemer’s Episcopal Thrift House and Michael Saunders & Company Foundation; the funds they have provided will continue to offer critical support and a brighter future for foster children and reunified families.”
