She brought “All Things Considered” to Helsinki for the infamous Trump-Putin summit. She has tracked CIA and military troops through the Khyber Pass and reported from Hamburg mosques, Baghdad streets and Belfast bars. Kelly has also turned her expertise in war zones to fiction writing and authored a debut espionage novel, “Anonymous Sources,” published by Simon and Schuster in 2013, plus a second novel, “The Bullet.” Most recently, she authored the parenting book “It. Goes. So. Fast.” about choices she had to make balancing reporting on world affairs with being a mother of two boys. “Mary Louise is treasured by our listeners, and we are thrilled she will be here in person,” said WUSF General Manager JoAnn Urofsky. “In addition to her reports from danger zones, she is very candid about coming to grips with the reality that working parents face. She brings a global perspective to hosting All Things Considered.” A Georgia native, Kelly graduated from Harvard University in 1993 with degrees in government, French, and literature. She subsequently completed a master’s degree in European studies at Cambridge University. Kelly’s first job was pounding the streets as a political reporter at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. She made the switch to broadcasting in 1996, joining a team that launched the BBC/Public Radio International show “The World.” She has worked at CNN as London correspondent and reporter for the BBC and elsewhere. WUSF’s Listen Up Luncheon series gives residents of this region a chance to meet and ask questions to some of the world’s most prominent journalists, writers and more. Held each year in Sarasota, this event will be hosted by staff of WUSF Public Media. This event is made possible in part with sponsorship from the Community Foundation of Sarasota County and others.
