HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. (August 21, 2023) – HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital is proud to announce that it expanded its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) capabilities today, now providing the first and only Level III NICU in Hernando, Pasco and Citrus Counties.
Oak Hill Hospital opened its Level II NICU in February 2020 and has provided care for more than 1,128 infants in this specialized unit. Deliveries at the hospital have also increased significantly with 1,399 births last year and more than 8,500 since the program first opened in 2006.
“When many of us think about having a child, we don’t often consider the possible need for a NICU,” said Chief Nursing Officer Sheila Sanders. “Patients who choose our hospital know that they’re giving birth in a facility that’s able to care for the tiniest patients, providing lifesaving and comprehensive care from cardiology to neurology, in private rooms with private bathrooms, rather than a nursery which helps put families at ease.”
HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital’s Level III NICU expanded offerings now include:
- Care for critically ill newborns of any gestational age, including continuous life support and comprehensive care,
- Families can bond in the unit’s 16 private rooms with bathrooms, four of which are designed for twin deliveries,
- A care team that includes a 24/7 on site neonatal provider, board-certified OB/GYNs, 24/7 midwifery care and board-certified low-risk and high-risk neonatal nurses and
- NICU support teams which include lactation consultants, neonatal dietitians, pharmacists, respiratory therapists and licensed clinical social workers dedicated to supporting NICU babies and families.
We continue to provide families with secure remote viewing access around the clock.
