SARASOTA, Fla. – The Central West Coast chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association (CWC-FPRA) is launching a new endeavor, as part of its commitment to “give back” to the community. In the coming program year, the chapter will provide pro bono communications support in an area of acute need to nonprofits and/or eligible for-profit companies through the “Mission Mavericks” program. The application window is now open.
CWC is planning to award one organization with a pro bono project to start in the coming program year. Depending on the level of interest from area organizations as well as the capacity of members to participate, CWC will consider expanding its scope to include a spring cycle and, possibly, to increase the number of organizations to assist.
The program is open to 501(c)(3) nonprofits and for-profit companies (considered on a case-by-case basis, with priority going to newly-established entities with a social purpose or intention) in need with limited or no PR, communications and/or marketing staff. The organization or business must be based in or conduct significant business/activities in Sarasota, Manatee and/or DeSoto counties. In order to be considered, the organization must demonstrate an acute PR, communications, or marketing need.
Example of potential projects might include: providing a custom press release template and best practices for media outreach; building out brand guidelines, including logo design; developing a list of local media contacts; setting up an e-newsletter template and guidance on content development; and more.
“Our chapter has always come together to participate in various community service projects but, this year, we really wanted to create a program that would ensure our contributions will have maximum positive impact,” said CWC president Sheryl Vieira. “Our unique value proposition is our members’ significant professional expertise and experience that could be of great value to an organization or company struggling to break through the noise or get their communications program off the ground. We look forward to helping local organizations ‘fly far with PR!’”
Applications will be accepted through October 1; applicants will be notified of their status by October 31. All project work will be conducted between November 1, 2023 through February 28, 2024. Regardless of the scope of projects, CWC’s goal is to help with a particular need or project, not to take the place (even temporarily) of actual professionals within the organization or company.
