Radius Announces Local Employees Change City of Lakeland and Handicap Parking Policies – July Disability Awareness Month

July 26, 2023 by Post

Two local women who work for Radius in the City of Lakeland have successfully campaigned to change handicap parking policies for all residents and visitors in the city.

Both Selina Campbell and Rhonda Washington, who work in the Radius office on South Kentucky Avenue, are registered disabled and have parking permits for their cars to use in handicap parking spots.

However, outside their office, there is only one disabled spot available in the on-street parking. After receiving parking fines for being in spaces for longer than the permitted time, the women decided to take matters into their own hands.

With limited parking throughout the city and even fewer disabled parking spots, Selina and Rhonda took their concerns to City Hall.

As a result of their campaign, the parking policy throughout the entire city has been changed. The new policy states that anyone with a handicap parking placard may park in any parking place throughout the City of Lakeland for an unlimited amount of time if the placard is displayed.

Rhonda said: “We followed the chain of command by speaking with the City of Lakeland parking attendants, looking for a resolution on how to possibly make changes to the downtown Lakeland parking policies. When we didn’t get anywhere with the attendants, we took this issue all the way to City Hall, to the very top speaking directly to the Manager of Public Works. Due to our tenacity and vigilance, we were notified last week that the policy has been changed!”
Selina and Rhonda not only implemented change for themselves, but for the entire disabled community living, working, or visiting the City of Lakeland.

The two local women who were born and raised in Lakeland, work in sales for the multinational company Radius. The company offers solutions in Dash Cameras, GPS Tracking, Asset Tracking and Electronic Logging Devices in the US. With headquarters in England, it is one of the largest and fastest growing private companies in the UK, operating in 18 countries across five continents.
