CLEARWATER, FL: The Nonprofit Learning Center has launched a new online course in nonprofit finance basics for board members and staff of small and medium-sized nonprofits. Called “Let’s Talk Money,” it is intended to get everyone up to speed and on the same page when it’s time to discuss finances.
“Often, people are not willing to admit they don’t know how to read financial statements, so they stay quiet in board meetings and don’t contribute to decisions,” says Margaret Meps Schulte of the Nonprofit Learning Center. “With Let’s Talk Money, they’ll be able to join the conversation about finances, enjoy a more meaningful role, and advance their cause.”
The course is delivered by Nancy Bacon, a nationally-known expert in nonprofit learning. “Fraud or financial errors can be devastating to a nonprofit,” she says. “We explain internal controls and invite participants to plan how they will implement key checks and balances within their organizations.”
The course also covers the balance sheet, income statement, cashflow, budgeting, and IRS Form 990. The material is presented in short, colorful videos and is accompanied by a workbook and sample financial statements.
According to the National Council of Nonprofits, 88% of nonprofits have a budget of less than $500,000 a year. Nonprofit Learning Center resources are affordable and easy to access, to help these community-based, locally-focused organizations achieve their missions.
Let’s Talk Money is available from the Nonprofit Learning Center at nonprofitlearning.center.
