 SARASOTA COUNTY – Two years since launching its curb-to-curb ridesharing service, Sarasota County has reached a major milestone: providing 500,000 “OnDemand” rides. The news comes amidst the transit system’s transition to the Breeze brand. OnDemand by Sarasota County will now be known as Breeze OnDemand. “The launch of the Breeze OnDemand service was part of our efforts to create a more appealing public transit system. The first year of OnDemand service yielded 180,000 rides. The number of rides delivered in the second year increased by more than 50%,” reflects Transit Director Jane Grogg. “The growth and popularity of the OnDemand service is a testament to our efforts to align the transit system with community values.” There are four Breeze OnDemand service zones:Downtown Sarasota/Lido Key/Longboat KeySiesta KeyVenice/Englewood areaNorth Port areaRides cost $2 per person and must start and stop within the same service zone. There is a $1.50 Breeze OnDemand rate for Transportation Disadvantaged riders (certified through the Breeze Transit office). OnDemand hours are Monday through Saturday, 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday, 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Breeze OnDemand system connects to the Breeze fixed route service, creating a countywide mobility network.
