Royal Pets Market & Resort and Veterinary Center Offers Tips for a Stress-Free Holiday for Pets |
TAMPA, FL (June 28, 2023) – While Independence Day is a time of celebration and excitement, it can be a source of great anxiety for pets when loud noises and bright flashes from fireworks overwhelm them. Dr. Nobuki Stobaeus, DVM, Area Medical Officer for Royal Pets Market & Resort and Veterinary Center, has some expert advice on ways to ensure a pet-friendly celebration. |
“While we want to include our furry friends in family gatherings, a fireworks display is one of the few times we may wish to do otherwise,” said Dr. Stobaeus. “Consider keeping your pet indoors, with the windows and doors closed to minimize noise and bright flashes, and soothing music to help them stay calm and distracted.” |
Extreme noise and blinding light associated with more powerful fireworks can startle pets, causing them to run away. “Microchipping your pets and, at the very least, making sure their ID tags are up to date are keys to quick notification of pet parents and ensuring a safe return of your pets,” said Dr. Stobaeus. |
Just like humans, some pets have a more difficult time dealing with stress than others. “For pets with severe anxiety, don’t hesitate to speak with your vet about the possible use of natural supplements or anti-anxiety medications that can alleviate pet distress,” said Dr. Stobaeus. |
