Highwoods Properties announced today that Midtown West, the 152,000 square foot office building within Midtown Tampa, has now been fully leased. This announcement, made with joint venture partner Bromley Companies, confirms a new lease has been signed, taking the final remaining vacant office space within Midtown Tampa.
The final lease includes approximately 4,000 square feet of space in the development’s highly desirable Midtown West office tower and illustrates the exceptional impact and influence Midtown is making in Tampa.
“Full occupancy of Midtown Tampa is a remarkable milestone, achieved through offering customers an unparalleled workplace experience and world-class amenities,” said Dan Woodward, Highwoods Properties Senior Vice President and Tampa Market Leader. “The market’s overwhelming response to Midtown Tampa is a testament to the success of its live-work-play ecosystem and the continued rise of Tampa on the national stage.”
Midtown West is a major element of the commercial component of the broader Midtown Tampa development. Completed in 2021, the 8-story Class A office building is surrounded by 22 walkable acres of retail shops, restaurants, two hotels and other amenities. It features first and second floor lobbies, a covered walkway to and from a parking garage and is in close proximity to International Plaza, Tampa International Airport and Westshore Plaza.
Midtown West will soon be joined by Midtown East, a new Class A office building. Designed by global architecture firm Rule Joy Trammell + Rubio, the project will extend to 18 floors with 430,000 square feet and is expected to be completed by 2025. Upon completion of Midtown East, Bromley and Highwoods will jointly own 134,000 square feet, consisting of five floors of office (floors 10 through 15) and ground level retail. The remaining 11 floors of Midtown East will serve as the future headquarters of Tampa Electric and Peoples Gas.
“With Midtown West and The Loft at Tampa fully leased, we are now looking forward to the 2025 completion of Midtown East – the largest expansion yet of this ambitious community and one which will offer customers more than 430,000 square feet of new office space,” said Nicholas Haines, CEO of Bromley Companies. “We are making good progress on the eastern tower – our permits are secured, foundations are underway and we are preparing now to break ground on the garage expansion. Midtown East will be a key addition to the entire Midtown Tampa project.”
The success of Midtown Tampa not only illustrates Tampa’s strength as a national office market, but also the development’s unique draw to top-tier global tenants, including Nestle, Greystar Real Estate Partners, Gresham Smith, Compass and Kast.
Comprising roughly 22 acres, the $1-billion Midtown Tampa development created a new residential and commercial district within the city of Tampa. The development is master planned for over 700,000 square feet of office space, 390 rental apartments, 225 hotel rooms and 185,000 square feet of retail space. Midtown Tampa also encompasses a Midtown Commons public space, a dog park and a 3-acre lake and recreational trail open to the public. Within the completely walkable neighborhood, guests, residents and tenants enjoy top national retailers and restaurants including REI, Sephora, Shake Shack, True Foods Kitchen, and Whole Foods, among others.
