TAMPA, Fla. (June 1, 2023) – HCA Healthcare West Florida Division announced today that Augusto Sepulveda, M.D., MPH, FACP has joined the division as the new chief medical officer (CMO).
Sepulveda previously served as the associate CMO for the HCA Gulf Coast Division in Houston, Texas. In this role, he supported the clinical quality, patient safety and quality improvement programs for 17 hospitals in the Houston, Corpus Christi and Rio Grande Valley markets. He replaces Sebastian Strom who remains in the West Florida Division as chief executive officer at HCA Florida Largo Hospital.
Sepulveda arrives with an impressive 25-years of healthcare experience in internal medicine, multi-facility physician leadership and academic medicine. He has a strong track record of accountability, responsibility and productivity by achieving physician engagement and buy-in. He served as a facility CMO at HCA Houston Healthcare Northwest and HCA Houston Healthcare Tomball before joining the division team. Prior to joining HCA Healthcare, he was the senior vice president, chief medical office and chief medical information officer at Medical Center Health System in Odessa, Texas.

A native of Puerto Rico, Sepulveda taught at the Ponce school of Medicine and Health Sciences in Puerto Rico for 12 years after receiving his medical degree there in 1997. He completed a residency in internal medicine at the Damas Hospital in Puerto Rico and earned a master’s degree in public health from the Ponce Health Sciences University in 2011. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, American Medical Informatics Association and Permian Basin Hispanic Medical Society Board. He earned his Green Belt Lean Six Sigma certification and is also a fellow in the American College of Physicians.
