May 31, 2023 by Post

ORLANDO — David L. Brewer III, Vice Admiral, U.S. Navy (Retired) with a distinguished career in the U.S. Navy and as a leader for the youth of our nation, will join John Crossman Saturday June 3 at 1:05 P.M. on The Crossman Conversation.

His military career began with being among the first graduating class of the first Naval ROTC unit established at an HBCU – Prairie View A&M University in Texas. The building was later named in his honor. During his 35-year Navy career he commanded two ships and won numerous awards for combat efficiency and community service. During Operation Iraqi Freedom he commanded a logistics movement that was the largest since World War II.

Upon his retirement he served as Superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District, the second largest school district in the U.S. and under his leadership the district had the highest academic gains in over five years. He was honored by the NAACP and Who’s Who in Black L.A. and received a Telly Award for his own TV show: Transforming Education with Superintendent Brewer.

Vice Admiral Brewer continues to serve youth as a national board member of several foundations including Read to a Child, a mentorship program for elementary school children; Jones High School’s Foundation that funds academic empowerment and enrichment programs; and he was recently appointed to the Board of Trustees of Bethune Cookman University.

Crossman launched The Crossman Conversation to share the views of widely accomplished people who have made amazing career achievements in spite of adversity and still consistently give back to the community. “Vice Admiral Brewer’s contributions as a leader both in service to our country and as mentor and educator have been phenomenal and I am deeply honored that he will be our guest,” Crossman said.

The Shepherd Radio is available on three stations, each part of the MARC Radio group. 1270 AM – WIWA in Orlando which covers the entire Central Florida area. In the Ocala/Villages area, The Shepherd is heard on 103.5 FM and 720 AM, while Gainesville listeners can hear the broadcast on 96.3 FM or 1430 AM.
