SARASOTA, FL – Local community-based care provider Safe Children Coalition (SCC) is thrilled to have earned its SafeCare Accreditation through the National SafeCare Training and Research Center (NSTRC). This achievement highlights the child welfare agency’s commitment to highest-quality practices and grants SCC access to SafeCare resources, technological support, and consultation with NSTRC specialists. This is SCC’s first accreditation through SafeCare; it runs through February of 2024.
The NTSRC is housed within Georgia State University’s Mark Chaffin Center for Healthy Development. Its mission is to ensure all children have a nurturing, safe, and healthy home environment through SafeCare training, implementation support, and research.
SafeCare focuses on three key outcomes that are universally important for families: creating positive relationships between caregivers and their children; ensuring homes are safe to reduce the risk of child unintentional injury; and keeping children as healthy as possible. SafeCare agencies conduct weekly module-based skills training to caregivers with children under the age of 5. The in-home instruction helps caregivers to strengthen skills in the following areas: parent-child interaction, safety and health.
In the U.S., there are currently just over 90 fully accredited SafeCare agencies, encompassing more than 900 SafeCare providers. Providers complete an average of more than 131,000 home visits each year for over 7,500 families. SCC is pleased to join the ranks of accredited agencies and is looking forward to renewing the accreditation annually.
“We are honored and proud to have earned our first-ever Accreditation through the National SafeCare Training and Research Center,” said SCC president and CEO Brena Slater. “Not only does this affirm our commitment to and alignment with best practices but it also opens the door to additional resources that will further enhance our operations and assist in our efforts to protect children and strengthen families.”
