Selby Foundation awards grant of $56,967 to Second Heart Homes
This grant will upgrade the plumbing systems and roofs to help their formerly homeless clients.
[SARASOTA, FL, May 16th , 2023—] Second Heart Homes, which provides housing, support services and love to homeless adults with mental-health challenges, was recently awarded a $56,967 grant by the William G. and Marie Selby Foundation.
The grant will be used to repair and upgrade plumbing systems in two of Second Heart Homes’ eight houses and replace the roofs of two others.
“To avoid dramatic rent increases, build equity and promote stability, we purchase and improve older houses for our clients,” said Megan Howell, founder and executive director of Second Heart Homes. “As anyone who’s owned a home knows, maintenance is required. We so appreciate the Selby Foundation grant: It will allow us to invest in the properties that our clients call home.”
“The Selby Foundation is pleased to make capital investments that advance the people-focused mission of Second Heart Homes,” said Susie Bowie, the foundation’s president and chief executive. “The funds will preserve and improve houses in older neighborhoods and enable clients to build new lives in safe and sound homes.”
