Tampa, Florida (May 8, 2023) – For the past four years, strength and conditioning coach Dylan Smith has been at the forefront of creating a community of professional athletes and thought leaders looking to take their fitness to the next level. Today, Smith and business partner Bryan Tissot announced the opening of a new exclusive fitness club, Sukha (SUE-KAH) Club, Inc.
Tissot is a NASM Certified Personal Trainer, and Smith’s certification comes from the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach. Both trainers have extensive experience creating training and conditioning programs for elite athletes, including high school and college athletes to stars in the NFL and MLB.
“Dylan is a tactician. His workouts are so well thought out and precise – helping me stay in great shape. I think Sukha will be an amazing place because of the community he has built – what he is creating is special,” said former Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Cameron Brate.
The new concept will open in mid-May at 1705 W. State Street in Tampa’s North Hyde Park neighborhood. Sukha derives its name from a Buddhist concept that emphasizes the journey of physical exertion as a pursuit of happiness through the alignment of the mind and body.
Sukha is not your typical gym. Instead, it’s an exclusive social wellness club offering group classes, personal training, open gym time, and a recovery center. Group training will focus on mobility, functional strength training, high-intensity interval training, and recovery. These classes are limited to 18 people per class, ensuring an exclusive and personalized experience.
The post-pandemic fitness trend is moving away from the traditional gym model to clubs that are “wellness destinations” — emphasizing fitness training and recovery with a group of like-minded high-performance individuals who seek to push each other while building a close-knit community.
With an exclusive membership structure, Sukha offers a unique experience beyond physical training. Membership numbers are limited to ensure that members receive the highest quality experience, including group classes, open gym time, access to recovery spaces, and exclusive event invitations.
“Through my experience working privately with MLB/NFL athletes and spending time at Camp Tampa, I have discovered that high-performing individuals all desire the same thing: exclusive access to qualified coaches who are efficient with their time and who can ensure that the physical stress they experience in the gym translates into their performance outside of it,” said Dylan Smith, co-founder of Sukha Club, Inc.
Sukha is a state-of-the-art 2,900-square-foot facility featuring Sorinex fitness equipment. Sorinex equipment is commonly found in elite Division 1 college athletic programs, where it is used by some of the world’s top athletes. The equipment’s design is ideal for building functional strength.
For members seeking to recover from intense training, Sukha will provide a rejuvenating experience through guided breathing classes paired with alternating time in one of their two Sisu Saunas (able to accommodate up to 8 people each) and four extra-large commercial-grade “The Plunge” cold plunge units.
The first round of memberships came through an invitation-only email to a group of Tampa’s professional athletes and thought and business leaders.
“We believe that fitness is more than just working out, and we’re excited to help our members achieve their fitness goals while also pursuing happiness and alignment in their lives. We are offering a 360-degree fitness experience, not just a gym membership,” added Sukha’s co-founder, Bryan Tissot.
The club is a one-stop shop where members can utilize the co-working space with and order organic food and drinks from LS Organics, replenish with electrolytes from Storm Energy, protein drinks from Slate Milk, or take away from Willa’s Restaurant. Sukha will also have an on-site retail center featuring activewear gear from Ten Thousand.
Smith added, “Sukha’s highly-trained team will guide members on their fitness and recovery journeys, and there will always be a certified trainer onsite.”
