Title: “It’s All About the Light” — paintings by Marie Garafano
Dates: Saturday, April 15 – Wednesday, May 31, 2023
Marie Garafano is an oil painter who works in an impressionistic style. She prefers landscapes, and delights in painting En Plein Air. She also does studio painting.
Marie reflects on plein air painting, “I love painting landscapes and being outdoors. The light on the landscape says it all. The view is transformed by its effects, and because it is transient, you must try and capture its effects before it changes.”
Marie worked 25 years as a freelance illustrator and graphic designer for publishers and corporate clients. She illustrated and painted in watercolors a children’s book for Houghton Mifflin called Ginger Goes on a Diet, about a foster child and her cat. That led to Pennsylvania Residencies in the Arts in high schools in the state. She taught a Children’s Books class at Hussian School of Art in Philadelphia for about ten years and a watercolor class in Continuing Studies at The University of the Arts.
We invite you to visit our new gallery and see Marie’s collection of work as well as the work of all the talented artists of Island Gallery and Studios, located at 456 Old Main Street in downtown Bradenton. Gallery hours are 10 am to 6 pm, Tuesday through Sunday.
