WHEN: Saturday, April 22, 2023
10 a.m.
WHERE: 215 11th St. W., Palmetto, FL 34221
WHAT: Over 30 Manatee Habitat stakeholders will gather to dedicate a newly built
home for the prospective homeowner, Yvette, and her son, Jose, who
uses a wheelchair. The family’s affordable home was specially designed
to accommodate the needs of Jose and his caregiver, Yvette. With a
housing crisis underway, finding a decent place to live is even more
difficult for people who require special needs and their caregivers.
The non-profit organization constructed this home with features like a
handicapped bathroom vanity cabinet, polished concrete floors, and a
front door wheelchair-height peephole— all features that enable more
independence for Jose. Plus, Manatee Habitat installed a motorized lift on
the ceiling of Jose’s room that will help Yvette transfer him from the bed
into the bathroom and shower with ease.
At this home dedication ceremony, Yvette, Jose, and their extended family
will celebrate the beginning of a new chapter in their lives, one where
they’ll finally have the security of a zero-interest mortgage and a home
that meets their needs. Manatee Habitat will present them with the
ceremonial key to their new home, a bible, and an American flag to
represent the American dream or homeownership.
