Holiday, FL., April 14, 2023 – AmSkills announced at its most recent board meeting that three new board members are joining the nonprofit organization’s Board of Directors. Leroy Yancey, Scott Spoerl and Dr. Lori Romano will work with other board members and AmSkills staff to help the organization fulfill its mission to transform lives and strengthen communities through workforce training and apprenticeships for youth, adults, veterans and the economically disadvantaged.
Scott Spoerl
Most of Scott’s 40-year career involved using his financial background to serve as Controller, VP of Finance and CFO of privately held for-profit companies primarily in the Real Estate Development and Construction industries. In the last several years, Scott has worked closely with nonprofit entities both in their formation and mission, as well as structuring the most effective ways to promote funding by both private and public groups. Scott has served on various for-profit and non-profit Boards. He and his wife recently founded a nonprofit entity that provides housing to women recently released from prison. This nonprofit is currently working closely with AmSkills to help these ex-prisoners find meaningful employment.
Dr. Lori Romano
Dr. Lori Romano is the Director of Career, Technical, and Adult Education (CTE) with Pasco County Schools, overseeing 80 high school career and technical education programs, including 27 career academies. She also leads and supports the implementation of middle school CTE courses, several elementary school CTE pilot programs, adult education (including post-secondary programs), and a Career Advisory Council for the Pasco School District. Before her work with the Pasco County School District, Dr. Romano served as the Superintendent of Schools in Hernando County.
Leroy Yancey
Leroy Yancey is the Vice President of Manufacturing for Coke Florida. In that role, he is responsible for leading Coke Florida’s manufacturing team by providing strategic guidance, helping to build organizational capability, improving processes, and developing great leadership. Leroy has over 30 years of experience in the manufacturing industry, working for major companies like Kellogg’s and Kraft Foods. He has a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Christian Brothers University.
AmSkills is a 501(c)(3) organization that teaches high school students and adults the foundational skills needed for a career in the manufacturing industry using hands-on training. It also gives these students the chance to explore multiple career paths in the manufacturing field. Once completed, candidates are eligible for paid, semi-skilled jobs or skilled apprenticeship opportunities.
