Sarasota, FL – The Harry Sudakoff Foundation granted $6,400 to Lighthouse Vision Loss Education Center to assist the organization in upgrading its technology to assist their clients with vision loss.
Lighthouse is the only organization in a five county area – Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte, Desoto, and Highlands – to offer free training and support to those who are blind or have low vision as diagnosed by a physician.
In addition to being more convenient and cost-effective for their clients, especially those in the further counties, working with clients online addresses an issue of transportation for clients that exists in the community. Often clients must wait hours for travel to in-person classes and appointments, and often then wait hours again for public transportation after appointments.
The grant covered the purchase of two new MacBook Pros for Lighthouse’s Assistive Technology Specialists, which allows them to continue providing current and relevant training for clients learning to use technology in a more accessible manner.
