Fresh out of high school at 19 years old, Gloria started her career at Community Convalescent Center working with her mother as a housekeeper, and her three other sisters who were nursing assistants back in 1973. Back at that time, Community provided 11 beds to serve the community. During her 50 YEAR career at Community, Gloria has worked as a housekeeper, activities assistant, and as a CNA. Gloria is the shining star of the facility, always with a smile on her face or her trademark “hey baby” that makes you feel at home every time she greets another staff member. When you ask Gloria why she has dedicated her career to Community Care Center she says, “my mother worked here for 16 years as a housekeeper, my three sisters have worked here a combined 50 years as C N A’s and my brother 2 years as an orderly, this is where my family has worked, and this is home.”
Compassion, selflessness, and inspiration are three words to describe Gloria from the residents that she serves each and every day. Compassion, “Gloria stood by me in my time of need and would not leave my side when I was very sick with COVID that tried to take me to heaven.” “She brought me my favorite snacks every time that she worked while I was in isolation, and I am very grateful for all that she has done for me.” “Gloria put the good in good morning for me during that time. “Inspiration, “Gloria gives me the tough love when I needed it most which was important for me to get to my goals and I am in better health now because of her.” Selflessness, “I have lived here at Community for 11 years and she will do anything for anyone at any time and me and my family are grateful to her.”
Positive, helpful, and optimistic. These three words describe Gloria as described by her co-workers.
Helpful, she is always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone that asks her without question. For the last several years, she has driven her best friend and after work shopping partner Marion to work even if she is not on the schedule. “Gloria goes above and beyond to help in any way, in any department.”
Optimistic, during the darkest times of the pandemic, she has always said, “We will be just fine, we will get through this,” to her fellow co-workers.
Positive. “She is always there to lend an ear to listen, a shoulder to cry on, a helping hand, or give you the most useful piece of advice that you will hear that day. Her positive outlook is only unmatched by her sense of humor. Never will you hear a negative comment from her, everyone loves her.”
Gloria’s commitment to the residents is apparent not only by her 50 years of service but by the smile and joy in her eyes every day she walks in the building. If there is a phrase to define Gloria it would have to be “Above and Beyond”. She goes above and beyond in everything she does, from snacks, to smoke breaks and volunteering to go on transportation with the most difficult residents. Gloria pays attention to everyone she meets and makes it her goal to make them feel like family. On behalf of the residents and employees of Community Care Center, thank you Gloria for putting the care in Community Care Center.
