ORLANDO — Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings – the first African American and first Democrat to be elected to that office – will join John Crossman on Friday, February 10 at 1:05 p.m. on The Crossman Conversation.
Mayor Demings is a former law enforcement officer who won the mayoral election by more than 60 percent of the vote in 2018 and 2022. He previously served as Sheriff of Orange County for nine years, Chief of the Orlando Police Department, and Director of Public Safety for Orange County Government. He is married to former U.S. Representative Val Demings.
Mayor Demings was born and raised in Orlando as the youngest of five children. His father was a taxi driver, and his mother was a homemaker. He received his undergraduate degree from Florida State University and MBA from Everest College. The heroin addiction and death of one of his brothers when he was young, inspired Mayor Demings to pursue a career in law enforcement.
Crossman, a regular speaker and supporter of diversity in higher education and business, launched The Crossman Conversation to have rich conversations with leaders who serve their community and who achieved career goals in spite of challenges. The Demings have dedicated their lives to serving the less fortunate.
The Shepherd Radio is available on three stations, each part of the MARC Radio group. 1270 AM – WIWA in Orlando which covers the entire Central Florida area. In the Ocala/Villages area, The Shepherd is heard on 103.5 FM and 720 AM, while Gainesville listeners can hear the broadcast on 96.3 FM or 1430 AM.
