Deb Carson presents The FLO Show based on her book Becoming Flo. With music, interview clips, personal anecdotes and 107 colorful projected images, the talk brings to life the inspiring, true story of Flo. Born Abraham Isadore Meyrowitz, the 16-year old Orthodox Jewish boy fled home in 1920 from his abusive homophobic father, joined a traveling circus, and overcame anti-Semitism to become a famous Ringling clown who appeared in the center ring and on screen. It was 40 years after her Uncle Albert’s death that Carson learned of Flo, the woman who from childhood believed was his true self. Flo eventually came to live her life on her terms. This remarkable story spotlights the power of art, courage and hope. For those who similarly struggle, Flo’s story illuminates a way out. The book and presentation has held readers and audiences enthralled for its vibrant images, laughter, tears, joy and emotional punch.
