Bradenton, Fla: Publix Super Markets Charities donated $30,000 to Manatee County Habitat for Humanity’s 2023 Women Build campaign, in which the organization partners with women in the community to build a home for a single mother in need.
Ketty, a local bank teller and mother of one, will be Manatee Habitat’s Women Build homebuyer this year. For the past few years, she has worked diligently to maintain a roof over her son, Diego’s, head by struggling to keep up financially with the rising rental market.
Therefore, for her, owning a Habitat home with a zero-interest affordably mortgage will mean finally having security and stability for her family. “I thank God every day that I never lost hope because that’s what led me to Habitat,” said Ketty.
Publix Super Markets Charities is a sponsor for the Women Build Signature Event, Hard Hats and High Heels, that will take place on March 8th, International Women’s Day. At the event, over 100 committee members and local women will bring their influence together to fundraise and demonstrate their support for Ketty’s new home.
The committee aims to raise $150,000 for the home and thanks, in part, to Publix Supermarket Charities who have been supporting the non-profit for the past 13 years, they are already halfway to reaching their goal.
Ketty and Diego will be the first family to move into their three-bedroom, two-bathroom house in Manatee Habitat’s new 16-home development, Poling Gardens, by 2024. And with the organization’s efforts to scale up to build 10 homes a year, they aim to complete the entire
community by mid-2025.
Publix Super Markets Charities’ support has totaled nearly $400,000 in donations over the years. With the constantly rising cost of land and building materials, charitable donations like theirs are critical to Manatee Habitat’s ability to build homes for families like Ketty’s.
