Four Habitat homes dedications will be celebrated on Thursday, December 22nd. Largo & St. Petersburg, FL – Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas and West Pasco Counties will host four home dedication ceremonies this Thursday, December 22nd, just in time for the holiday season. These four families will be celebrating their achievement of the American Dream of homeownership. Earlier this week, the Craft and Monroe families celebrated with friends and family at their home dedications. India Craft, a single mom of three and pediatric dental hygienist, partnered with Habitat and Frenchy’s Restaurants to build her home. India explained the importance of this next chapter, “I can finally give my kids stability and a foundation that will last a lifetime.” Teracina Monroe grew up in a Habitat home, which was built and purchased by her mother. After living on her own, she was determined to become a member of the Habitat Homeowner Family for herself. At only twenty-one years old, Teracina just closed on a safe and affordable Habitat home of her own. |

Teracina Monroe celebrates a transformational life accomplishment: homeownership. She’s joined by her mother (a Habitat homeowner) and her grandmother. |

Volunteers and the future homeowners construct the homes, which are sold at no profit and financed with a zero-interest loan. Habitat homeowner candidates earn 30 to 80 percent of area median income. Candidates must demonstrate need for adequate shelter; ability to pay back a zero-interest loan and willingness to partner with Habitat to invest 350 to 450 “sweat equity” hours. Mortgage monies are used to build even more homes, making each donation to Habitat a perpetual legacy to the community. Habitat believes that homeownership contributes to family stability, leading, in turn, to community stability. Additionally, the affiliate raises funds through their ReStores; home improvement outlets where donated household and building items are sold to the public.
