TAMPA, Fla. (December 8, 2022) – WUSF Public Media is adding even more ways for jazz fans to enjoy their music online, by launching a series of especially curated Spotify playlists of jazz music on its online platform, Arts Axis Florida. With these lists, jazz fans can dial into different jazz genres to explore music, all while supporting public media. To start, WUSF has three channels to choose from: – Jazz tracks especially chosen by WUSF staff, including “Easy Living” by Kury Elling, “Love Castle” by Florida native Chick Corea and “The Moontrane” by Eddie Henderson. – Latin Jazz tracks topping the Spotify charts, such as “Sofrito” by Mongo Santamaria, “La Comparsa” by Chucho Valdes and “Manteca” by Arturo Sandoval. – Top jazz tracks globally, such as “Blue in Green” by Miles Davis and John Coltrane, “Take Five” by The Dave Brubeck Quartet, and “In a Sentimental Mood” by Duke Ellington. “Music listeners now are finding what they want to hear in so many different ways, and we plan to be with our listeners wherever they are,” said WUSF Public Media General Manager JoAnn Urofsky. |
“Spotify’s global accessibility makes it the online music player of choice. With these playlists, we are providing a platform for our listeners to both tap into the incredible library of streaming music, and to remain supporters of public media.” At the Arts Axis Florida website, listeners can pick which of the three curated playlist they prefer, and the website launches a special Spotify player. These playlists will grow and adapt over time. For instance, WUSF will have a holiday music playlist, and will soon add a local artist playlist, as well as artists of the month. Arts Axis Florida began in 2020 as the online hub of music, art, performance and cultural venues from WUSF Public Media. The popularity of Arts Axis Florida has taken off quickly, with tens of thousands of new listeners, and traffic to the site has more than tripped over the summer. Jazz music is a core component of the service. To access the playlists, listeners simply go to Arts Axis Florida, click which one they want, and the system starts the Spotify app on a mobile device, tablet or desktop. |

For those listeners without a Spotify app or subscription, Arts Axis Florida has another option – two live jazz streaming channels via a partnership with WUCF. That includes a channel for traditional jazz, and a channel dedicated to Latin jazz. Listeners need only go to Arts Axis Florida, click on Jazz and hit “play” on the online player. Arts Axis Florida is a special project of WUSF Public Media, the local NPR station for the greater Tampa Bay Region. The entire library of Arts Axis Florida is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and is supported by the listeners and sponsors of WUSF Public Media and Community Foundation Tampa Bay. |
