Are you looking for ways to earn extra income? You’re not alone. Nearly half of Americans have side gigs that help them cope with rising inflation and prices.
While some are struggling to get their side hustles to take off, others are making easy money by renting their possessions through peer-to-peer marketplaces.
One such marketplace, Rockon Recreation Rentals (or “Rockon”), lets you rent the recreation equipment and vehicles you already have but seldom use — such as RVs, ATVs, boats, kayaks, jet skis, and more.
And many budding renters are already making thousands of dollars from their bookings.
The earning potential is limitless, especially now
Brian, the founder of a Florida-based rental business called Recreational Watersports, is one of those happy renters.
He made over $45,000 (actual earnings) by renting his jet skis and bass boat in just three months of partnering with Rockon. “I had no idea there was such a crazy demand for jet skis,” says Brian. “I only wish I started renting sooner.”
In fact, Brian’s side gig was doing so well that he recently quit his main job as a car salesman and started running his rental business full-time. “I went from struggling financially to running a profitable business in no time, ” Brian says. “And Rockon played a huge role in that. I don’t think I’d be where I’m at without them.”
Rockon’s founder, Greg shares that Brian is no exception. “Many of our vendors have had tremendous growth after partnering with us”. And he doesn’t think that’s a coincidence.
According to recent data, outdoor activities in the US skyrocketed in the last few years — partly because COVID, lockdowns, and movement restrictions made Americans crave time in nature more than ever:
That can mean that even more people will want to rent recreation equipment and vehicles in the upcoming years from people around you. “The earning potential is really unlimited,” says Greg. “It only depends on how many renters your offer can attract.”
Obviously, the more stuff you can rent, the better. That way, you can serve more customers at the same time and increase your monthly revenue.
But renting what you already own is enough to get started. “Most vendors are really happy with how much they make from their own equipment,” Greg says. “Of course, some decide to put the money back into their businesses so that they can grow, but I wouldn’t say that’s necessary.”
That may be why Rockon has recently partnered with several vendors who are just starting out and renting their own equipment JAM Sports Rental, Crystal River Tiki Tours, and Xtreme Off-Road Adventures.
Smaller vendors like these can still make sufficient income because Rockon ensures they get enough visibility and exposure — which they might not be able to create on their own.
Just consider that over 60,000 outdoor lovers visit Rockon’s marketplace each month. “The trend we see is that outdoor enthusiasts have it in their blood. They return often, and for different adventures,” says Greg.
But Greg believes there’s an additional reason Rockon’s partners can make extra income so quickly. “We give them everything they need to grow, with no upfront costs,” says Greg. “I think that’s what makes the biggest difference.”
Rockon’s vendors get everything they need to start renting and earning, for free
Brian confirms Greg’s claim. He shares that he decided to partner with Rockon because he felt like that would give him a head start, especially since there were many reputable competitors nearby, and we needed a way to wedge into the market without spending a ton in up-front costs. “Rockon was basically offering me everything I needed to run a profitable business, for free,” Brian says. “And they are definitely delivering on that promise.”
So, what does that entail, exactly?
“In a nutshell, we equip our partners with all the tools they need to start renting and earning asap, which includes done-for-you marketing services, to help you go-to-market strategy go from zero to hero” says Greg. That’s how this Mount Dora Boat Rental operator grew over 140%, one Operator claims, and is still growing!
One of the “tools” that Rockon’s vendors get is a custom-built booking website branded to the vendors liking. Its purpose is to help vendors advertise their businesses even outside Rockon’s platform, all while powering the bookings using Rockons simple booking software.
As an example, below is a website that Rockon built for a UTV rental business:
Rockon’s marketing team also optimizes the websites for search engines so potential customers can find them more easily. They even equip the sites with live chats and booking calendars through which lenders can make their reservations.
But vendors don’t have to rely solely on their websites for new bookings. They also get listed on the Rockon marketplace — which currently gets over 60K views every month — so customers can find them there, too:
Additionally, vendors can use Rockon’s proprietary reservation software to send customers automated receipts, reminders, and review requests. That way, they don’t have to send important messages manually or lose a ton of time in the process.
Lastly, all Rockon’s partners get access to the startup’s operator dashboard, which comes equipped with customer management and CRM tools. The dashboard also lets vendors automate their emails, create financial reports, manage their staff, and more.
“As a startup, we know that investing in a business before making profits isn’t easy,” says Greg. “That’s why we give our partners everything they need to get their side gigs rolling, with minimal investments on their part.”
How to partner with Rockon and start renting
So, let’s say you’re interested in partnering with Rockon. How would that work, exactly?
“We offer potential partners two ways to work with us. They can sign up for our all-in-one service or just our marketing services,” says Greg.
If you sign up for Rockon’s all-in-one service, you can use Rockon’s marketing services and booking system. In return, you’ll only be charged a small booking fee for each transaction. This payment model is similar to that of Airbnb, FareHarbor, and other booking services, and it ensures you don’t spend money before making it.
Another option is to sign up only for Rockon’s paid marketing plans. There are currently two plans available, priced at $30 and $100 a month. Both plans include free content and website optimization, insider access to premium marketing tools and services offered only to Rockon Partners, getting listed on the Rockon Outdoor Experiences Marketplace, and more.
“We leave it to our partners to decide which option makes the most sense for their businesses,” says Greg. “But we’re confident we can help them earn a steady income either way, by simply connecting them with their ideal customers.”
