The Peter J. Mulry Foundation adds a clothes giveaway to its philanthropic giving initiatives.
The foundation is all about life skills and planting the seeds of possibilities for kids who could use a little guidance, hope and inspiration.
Pete Mulry worked for years as a baseball coach at Tampa Catholic and University of Tampa. He enjoys giving back and is constantly looking for ways to do so. He’s always been all about the students, in high school, college and now the younger ones.
His foundation already does a once a year fun sporting day with local top notch baseball, softball and soccer coaches from area colleges and the MLB to show kids the playing field and give them inspirational messages. It’s free, all kids 6-13 are invited.
They also promote reading and special life skills with Mulry’s 12 book Threads and Friends series. It’s all about teamwork, responsibility, character and accountability to name a few. Those very books are being used currently in local schools as community members are mentors in a program to connect with the school kids, read to them, talk to them and leave nuggets of possibilities after each visit. The goal is to instill a good foundation for their future. The reactions from the kids, their families, the school administrations and the mentors themselves is goosebump worthy. The mentoring project of taking some time and giving back is rewarding and motivating. Everyone wins. The mentorship program has been in effect for more than a year now. They are always looking for more participants.
Now the foundation is preparing special holiday goodie bags complete with shirts, pants, shorts, shoes, toiletries & more for these kids enrolled in the mentorship reading program. These nice items will mean a big deal to the kids and their families!!!
The event is set for this Saturday, December 3 at Ballast Point Elementary at 2802 Ballast Point Blvd in Tampa from 8 – 10 am. Dozens of children and their family along with many mentors will be in attendance. There is also a special visit from Santa himself scheduled.
