When you walk through the doors of The Town Center at The Watermark at Trinity you’re bound to run into someone who knows Snickers. Snickers is a 12-year-old Chihuahua and Wire Fox Terrier mix and would likely be voted Most Popular resident of the independent living community in Pasco County.
Snickers moved to The Watermark at Trinity in January of 2021 with her owner Jan Graham. She was a rescue dog that Jan adopted more than a decade ago, and up until two years ago was skittish around people.
“When I adopted Snickers, I had to train her to walk on a leash,” said Graham. “We had a bad experience with a maintenance associate at the last place I lived, and it took her three years to get over it. Then we moved here, and she just blossomed. People might not know me, but they know Snickers. And when they see me and she’s not with me, they ask about her.”
Since moving to The Watermark at Trinity, Snickers’ fear of people has disappeared. She joins Jan for meals and events and even enjoys a lively game of Rummikub. She’s also made several friends. From the concierge who holds her while Jan eats dinner with her friends, to the security guard who joins Jan and Snickers on their morning walks and brings Snickers homemade jerky.
An associate even volunteered to teach Jan how to groom Snickers.
“Snickers’ hair grows straight up, and my daughter used to trim it for me,” said Graham. “Well, she couldn’t anymore, so I asked Lucille in Activities if maybe she could teach me to trim Snickers hair since she used to be a groomer. She brought in her shears and brush and showed me how to do it. She even let me borrow her tools, and she was so happy to do it.”
Snickers isn’t the only dog that lives at The Watermark at Trinity. The community is pet-friendly and goes out of its way to make its four-legged residents feel welcome.
The Watermark at Trinity, which also offers assisted living and memory care, celebrated its pets with a Pet Palooza on October 20. The event featured a costume contest, pet photoshoot, and chef demonstration where attendees can learn to make healthy dog treats. Residents and attendees also participated in the owner/pet look-alike contest.
