(October 20, 2022) The Sarasota-Manatee region is rich in educational offerings for adults. There are also diverse funding sources for these educational opportunities. A free virtual seminar, “Interested in Funding Your Education?” is part of the Women’s Resource Center’s Career Connections program, which links women to quality jobs, educational opportunities, and funded training programs. Panelists include Holly Gray, a college counselor and education consultant; Simone Peterson, a community investment officer with the Manatee Community Foundation; Jaquelyn McNeil, dean of student services at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota; and Gabriela Vega, assistant. Director of financial aid at USF-Sarasota-Manatee. The free session is November 2, at noon. Register at mywrc.org/FundEdu or call (941) 256-9721.
During this session, participants will be given an overview of a variety of options available to help pay for their education, including information on FAFSA, CSS Profile, Pell Grants, and scholarships. Representatives from local community foundations and colleges will speak about funding sources such as scholarships from their organizations.
Additionally, participants will hear from a student who achieved her dream of attending college, in a dream program, and nearly fully funded.
“We believe college advising should include financial advising. Following one’s dream to earn a postsecondary credential shouldn’t saddle a student in crippling debt and impede their ability to live a fulfilling life,” says Holly Gray.
