As the nonprofit community has mobilized to provide relief to residents impacted by Hurricane Ian, the Louis and Gloria Philanthropic Trust is supporting hurricane relief efforts through a $25,000 gift to All Faiths Food Bank. This contribution will support efforts to assist residents in DeSoto County impacted by Hurricane Ian.
In advance of the storm, All Faiths distributed generators to its DeSoto Food & Resource Center as well as to emergency food partner Arcadia Trinity United Methodist Church. Since the storm, All Faiths has held or provided food for distributions at locations including the DeSoto Food & Resource Center, Arcadia Trinity UMC, Arcadia Boys & Girls Club, South Florida State College: DeSoto Campus, Catholic Charities and more.
Other efforts have included daily deliveries – once a safe route had been identified – of food and water to shelters and to the National Guard; the delivery of pallets of food, water and MREs (Meals Ready to Eat) to DeSoto Memorial Hospital and to the Child and Family Development Center; and deliveries of food and water to first responders helping to restore an area farm. Additionally, All Faiths Food Bank’s DeSoto Food & Resource Center reopened on October 3 for food and water distributions, and assistance in connecting families to needed social services.
