Meals on Wheels Plus of Manatee Announces ‘Stuff The Bus’ Event to Benefit the Food Bank of Manatee, a Plus Program of Meals on Wheels Plus of Manatee

Bradenton, FL –October 17, 2022 A joint community effort will be underway this weekend with United Way Suncoast, Publix, The School District of Manatee County, and Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee to ‘Stuff the Bus’, a community event to benefit The Food Bank of Manatee. The ‘Stuff the Bus’ event is presented by Mosaic and will be held at all Manatee County Publix store locations on Sunday, October 23, 2022, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Customers will have the opportunity to make non-perishable food and/or monetary donations to help “Stuff the Bus” parked at each of the 19 Manatee County Publix store locations. All donations collected benefit The Food Bank of Manatee, a PLUS program of Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee and the largest hunger-relief organization based in Manatee County. 

“We hope to reach or exceed our goal of collecting 150,000 pounds of food on Sunday, October 23rd,” said Maribeth Phillips, President & CEO of Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee. “This year’s inflationary factors have been multiplied by the recent impacts of Hurricane Ian, and we see an increased need for food. We are grateful to our community for supporting our efforts to feed families here in Manatee,” she added. All donations made to The Food Bank of Manatee stay local to feed local.

2022 Stuff the Bus supporters include: Presenting Sponsor Mosaic, with additional support from Herald Tribune and Community Partners United Way Suncoast, Publix, and the School District of Manatee County.

  • SHOP:  Sunday, October 23rd from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at all Manatee County Publix store locations; Look for the School District of Manatee School Bus in the parking lot and “Stuff the Bus” with your donations!

While initially founded in 1972, with the purpose of providing nutritious meals to the elderly and disabled residents of Manatee County, Meals on Wheels of Manatee, Inc. became so much more. The organization grew over the years in response to community needs, and the “PLUS” was eventually added to the name as a way of representing the many other services offered. The mission of Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee is to assist individuals to live independently by providing nutrition and caring, supportive services.
