University Area CDC Offers Free Swim Lessons

October 6, 2022 by Post

Registration is Now Open

Tampa, Fla. – Registration is now open for free swim lessons, offered by the University Area CDC’s (Community Development Corporation) Get Moving program. Lessons will be provided for youth ages seven through 14 at the New Tampa Family YMCA, 16221 Compton Place, Tampa, 33647.

Swim lessons will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 to 6 p.m., starting October 17.

“Swimming is an essential skill for people of all ages and it’s never too early to start,” said Ronnie Oliver, Get Moving health education manager. “Not only does it teach water safety and reduce the risk of drowning, it also builds confidence, is a fun way to stay active and lays the foundation for a lifetime of water enjoyment.  We’re proud to partner with the New Tampa Family YMCA to provide this free opportunity to area youth.”

Registration is available at www.wellnessliving.com and by stopping by the University Area Community Center at 14013 N. 22nd St. Tampa, on Tuesdays between 2 to 6 p.m. More information is available by contacting Ronnie Oliver at 813.690.1457 or ROliver@UACDC.org.

Sponsors include Hillsborough County, Children’s Board of Hillsborough County and the YMCA Tampa Palms.

University Area CDC, celebrating 23 years of serving the community, offers support for thousands of Tampa residents through youth programs, adult education and resource assistance. Its primary mission is the redevelopment and sustainability of the at-risk areas surrounding University of South Florida’s Tampa campus.
