Mic, a creative and courageous space where veterans and civilians can bring their full selves, listen, share and grow together. The Veteran Community Open Mic, founded by Art2Action in 2013, is the longest running open mic for the veteran community in the United States. It’s a place where all people are welcome, regardless of identity or background, for creative exchange and community-building. The October 16th event will be the last in a year-long series of co-presentations with The Straz Center.

Andrea Assaf, Artistic Director of Art2Action, and poet-veteran BlacJak will co-host the event, with signature music by DJ Cotton. This installation will feature a partnership with Tampa-based Kitchen Table Literary Arts, featuring Black and women of color writers, as well as veterans and civilians who sign up to share their creative work. Open Mic sign-up spots are up to five minutes each, in any genre or creative form. Pre-registration is encouraged, but not required, at www.art2action.org.

This is a FREE event, with free non-alcoholic beverages provided for all. Art2Action respectfully requests that an alcohol/substance-free and weapons-free environment be maintained. Masks and social distancing are encouraged.
