Church of the Redeemer will welcome Anthony Thompson on Thursday, October 6, at 7 p.m. to share his powerful story. (This event was originally scheduled for Thursday, September 29, at 6:30 p.m. but has been rescheduled to October 6, at 7 p.m. due to Hurricane Ian.)
Thompson’s wife, Myra, was killed in the shooting at Emanuel A.M.E. Church in Charleston, South Carolina, in 2015. After her death, he decided to forgive the shooter. Then he wrote a book about the experience: “Called to Forgive: The Charleston Church Shooting, a Victim’s Husband, and the Path to Healing and Peace.”
The event is free and open to the public. No registration is required. It will also be livestreamed on RedeemerSarasota.org, Redeemer’s YouTube channel, and Redeemer’s Facebook page.
Church of the Redeemer is a growing parish in the heart of downtown Sarasota. It’s located at 222 S. Palm Ave. Free parking is available in front of the church on Gulfstream Avenue.
