TPO Board to Consider Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) Amendments for FDOT and HART Projects

September 22, 2022 by Post

Amendments Would Fund Walk/Bike Safety Outreach and a New Passenger Ferry Grant

Tampa, FL – The Hillsborough Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) will consider two amendments to the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) for fiscal years 2022/23 – 2026/27 to fund a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) project for Walk/Bike Safety Outreach and a HART New Passenger Ferry Grant.

The FDOT Walk/Bike Safety Outreach project will use technology such as GPS and wi-fi to send safety messages about the dangers of speeding to road users on the High Injury Network, a series of Vision Zero corridors with the greatest number of fatalities and serious injuries per mile. The HART New Passenger Ferry Grant will add capital funds from a recently awarded US Department of Transportation grant. HART will use the funds to purchase a new ferry to serve the route from Downtown Tampa to St. Petersburg.

The TPO will consider the amendments at its board meeting on October 12, 2022, at 10 a.m. The public can comment on the amendment through October 11 via email to tpo@plancom.org; mail to Hillsborough TPO, Attn: Cheryl Wilkening, 601 E. Kennedy Blvd., 18th Floor, Tampa 33602; voicemail one week in advance of the meeting to 813-272-5940 (press 9); or social media by posting on the TPO Facebook page.
