Top tips for finding a holiday rental

September 19, 2022 by Post

Even before the global pandemic, holiday rentals were seeing a huge surge in popularity compared to the classic hotel stay. Not only do they offer more room to move around and shared spaces where you can socialize with your crew but they are uniquely designed so that no two are the same.

But with thousands of holiday rentals out there on sites such as Rentola, you find the one that’s right for you. It starts with asking yourself a few important questions to whittle down your choices. Based on your answers, you can filter the search results on the holiday rental site and compare those that tick all of your boxes!

What is your price range?

Knowing your budget is essential before you start browsing vacation rentals online as it’s easy to get tempted by a property that could leave you in debt. “Expensive” doesn’t necessarily mean “better” and there are great options for budget and mid-range stays that will suit family, couples, and groups of friends. So determine what you can afford and set your budget parameters before you start searching.

Select your dates

Some travelers are restricted to traveling during school or major holiday periods, which is when prices and accommodation availability are at a premium. If you’re flexible with dates and can travel outside of the peak seasons, you might be able to grab yourself a property that would otherwise be out of your price range. Planning on traveling at the height of summer? Then get in early as holiday rental accommodation books out early.

How many people are staying?

The number of people you are traveling with will determine how many rooms you need and the properties that are available to you. Even if you’re willing to squeeze eight people into a two-bedroom residence, the host might have other ideas. Most listings will not only tell you how many rooms there are but the maximum number of people the property can accommodate. Small guests (such as babies and toddlers) are often omitted from these numbers, so check with the host directly.

What are your must haves?

Next, figure out what is important to you in a holiday rental property. Is it having individual rooms for everyone, self-catering facilities, or on-site parking? Maybe you want high-speed internet so you can stream all your favorite TV shows and movies or perhaps you’re traveling at the height of summer and a swimming pool is essential. Everyone’s needs and wants are slightly different and knowing what they are is crucial to finding your perfect stay.

Know your location

Location is often one of the most important factors when finding a holiday rental and not only when it comes to selecting your city or destination. Do you want to be within walking distance of historic sites, restaurants, and beaches or is being away from all the hustle and bustle your idea of a getaway? When deciding on your preferred location, it’s important to consider transportation options, particularly if you don’t plan on hiring a car. In this instance, you’ll probably be reliant on public transport and want to know there is more than one service a day!

Is the property family or pet friendly?

While most properties welcome kids, some are adults-only while others have restrictions on the ages they permit due to safety considerations. Before setting your heart on a holiday rental, always check the fine print to ensure your brood can stay and see if there are specific amenities available, such as high chairs and cots. It’s also a good idea to contact the host directly in case there are any features of the home that aren’t child-safe, such as steep staircases or unfenced swimming pools. Similarly, if you want to travel with your pet, check the property’s rules and restrictions, including any associated cleaning costs.

Know the house rules

With most holiday rental listings, you’ll find a set of house rules that outline security deposits, cleaning costs, and extra fees for additional people. It’s important that you are aware of these before you check-in so that you aren’t issued with unexpected costs at the end of your holiday. Planning on having a party or inviting non-guests to socialize? Check if this is permitted so you don’t risk getting thrown out of the rental halfway through your stay. If you’re not sure about something, don’t hesitate to contact the host so you can make an informed decision if their property is right for you.

During a period when travelers are still cautious about social distancing, holiday rentals are offering guests the space they need to enjoy a relaxed holiday with the ones they love. Provided you do a little research and planning ahead of time, you’ll find the perfect property to suit your stylistic tastes, space requirements, and budget.
