What: Life;Story, Centerstone’s 20th annual 5K/10K run/walk brings awareness to depression and suicide prevention. The event will feature races, inspirational Life;Story ceremony and awards, exhibits, food, music and family fun. Special guests will include Retired Marine Corps Major General James S. “Hammer” Hartsell, Executive Director of the Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs, who served in the U.S. Marine Corp with honor for 37 years of active and reserve duty.
Who: Centerstone, a national leader in behavioral health care, is hosting Life;Story as part of National Suicide Prevent Month activities; Centerstone will be joined by its community partners and area sponsors from Manatee and Sarasota Counties.

Why: “Suicide is a major concern; it is among the leading causes of death in this country. Centerstone has a long-standing commitment to supporting veterans, military service members, and their families; we recognize they experience unique challenges associated with their service,” said Melissa Larkin-Skinner, CEO, Centerstone – Florida. “Early intervention is key; this means we need to be more vigilant to the concerns of our veterans, watch for signs of risk, and connect them with the support they need,” she noted. “Through Life;Story, we bring a message of hope and we look forward to strengthening our partnerships to bring this message to more veterans and military families.”
