Everything You Need to Know About Cut-to-Fit Filters

September 13, 2022 by Post

A cut to fit air filter is ideal for people who live in places where they cannot install standard return vents. These filters are efficient enough, stick, and cut easily when used with Velcro. Cut to fit filters have the same benefits as standard filters but have an addition.

These filters keep your home clean, and homeowners can cut them to any shapes they desire. Below we discuss everything you need to know about cut to fit air filters.

Where do these Filters Come in Handy?

Most old homes, unfortunately, have irregular-sized vents. Vintage homes have all kinds of air vents, making it hard to install any filter. Undoubtedly, you will require a custom filter shape for a circular air vent. You might also be pressed to look for an air filter that will fit into your vents properly. Cut to fit filters are ideal for such spaces since you can customize them to meet your desires.

How to Install these Filters

Installing cut to fit air filters is more complex than other types. There are two additional steps when installing these filters; cutting and measuring.

  • Measuring

Before buying, you must measure the air filter’s size to ensure you get the right size. The first measurement step occurs, where you will situate the air filter. This measurement must not be exact; you might include a bigger or smaller space to ensure it fits correctly.

Homeowners replacing the window AC filter might want a smaller space to ensure the unit fits in without forcing.

  • Cutting

The next step after measuring should be cutting the air filter. However, you are advised to take your measurements and include them on the filter material before you make the first slice. You are also advised to make the filter larger when using an installation tape to keep it secure.

You can draw lines using a straight edge when cutting a rectangular filter as it lets you know where to cut. On the other hand, you can use a template when cutting irregular-shaped filters before tracing them on the filter material.

  • Installing

The air-filter installation process should follow the following steps;

  • Placing it in the holder if the vent has an area where you can hold it
  • Secure the filter to your vent if it lacks a place you can hold the filter.

Using the Filter Installation Tape

The air filtration installation tape is put around the air vent’s perimeter and is made using tiny plastic teeth, which put the filter in place by grabbing it.

What is the Function of an Air Filter?

Air filters are the holes that allow clean air to pass through, making them your engine’s first defender. Air filters play a significant role in eliminating unwanted components from accessing your HVAC unit.

Final Thoughts

Air filters are integral to your HVAC unit and should be replaced often for the best effects. The above article has discussed everything you need to know about cut to fit filters, and you can reach out for more information.
