
Curlew Hills Memory Gardens in Palm Harbor will host a 9/11 Memorial Ceremony on Sunday, September 11 at 10:00 a.m. in honor of the attacks on September 11th, 2001. The event will include keynote speaker Lee Ielpi, retired FDNY who lost his son, also a member of the FDNY, on 9/11.
The National Anthem will be sung by Sonya Bryson-Kirksy, singer with the Tampa Bay Lightning and veteran of the United States Air Force. Mark Wilson, anchor from FOX 13 Tampa, will be the Master of Ceremonies.
In an effort to bring this special event to people everyone, the event will air live in real time on the Curlew Hills Facebook page.
Special guests will also include: Chris Sprowls, Florida Speaker of the House, singer Lisa Cane, Pinellas County School Board Member and Thunder the Eagle from Wrede Wildlife Center.
The program will also include helicopter flyovers from the U.S. Coast Guard and Pinellas County Sheriffs Office.
There will be a 9/11 art display from 4th & 5th students of Westlake Christian School, Sutherland Elementary, Ozona Elementary and Curlew Creek Elementary and an essay contest award from local area middle schools – all schools used the theme “My 9/11 Hero”. The first-place essay
winner will read his essay at the 9/11 ceremony and receive $500.
Attendance at this outdoor 9/11 memorial event is limited. So those wishing to attend are
encouraged to arrive early and carpool if possible. Once parking is full, admission will be closed.
