(August 2, 2022) Hershorin Schiff Community Day School recently appointed Dr. Jesse Ehrlich and Rabbi Michael Shefrin to its board of trustees, a committed group of leaders who continue to guide the school after its success moving onto its new campus in 2021.
According to Mitch Blumenthal, who serves as president of Community Day School’s board of trustees, the board is entrusted with the responsibility of creating school policies, as well as financial and strategic planning for long-term success.
Blumenthal notes that, “Dr. Ehrlich and Rabbi Shefrin share a profound commitment to Community Day School and its mission. They’ve both demonstrated a tireless passion for education and the community with years of service and dedication. Their combined experience, expertise and leadership qualities are immeasurably valuable. We’re thrilled and honored to welcome them to the Community Day School team!”
Dr. Jesse Ehrlich is a recently retired orthodontist from Sarasota. During his 35 year career, he treated hundreds of children and adults from Sarasota, Venice, Englewood and North Port. Dr. “E,” as he was known to his patients, has been active with organizations benefiting children, including Venice Little League, Habitat for Humanity and the All Faiths Food Bank. He loves cycling, Middle Eastern music, and the study of the Hebrew language. Dr. E is excited to be new member of the board and looks forward to working with students and staff to advance the mission of the school.
Rabbi Michael Shefrin was born and raised in Los Angeles and was ordained as rabbi in May of 2016 by Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. Rabbi Shefrin says he is honored to serve as associate rabbi at Temple Emanu-El in Sarasota, where he, his wife Shayna, and their young son Jacob Zeke are thrilled to be a part of the community. He earned his Master of Arts in Hebrew Letters, in 2014 from Hebrew Union College-JIR and his Bachelor of Arts in Communications at Sonoma State University in 1997. Shefrin was enjoying an exciting career in the entertainment industry when he experienced a life-changing shift in his goals after volunteering in the Jewish community.
