TICKETS GO ON SALE TO THE PUBLIC ON FRIDAY, AUG. 5
***
WHO: Straz Center for the Performing Arts
WHAT: Cat Power
WHEN: Thursday, Sept. 22 at 8 p.m.
WHERE: Ferguson Hall
DETAILS: As celebrated as she is for her own songwriting, Chan Marshall also is a gifted interpreter of other people’s material. Marshall, who performs under the name Cat Power, this year released Covers, her second album of other people’s songs, including Frank Ocean, Bob Seger, Iggy Pop and Billie Holiday, among others. Marshall’s gift as an interpreter is her ability to channel disparate material through her own sensibilities to create a work that is as personal as any album of her own compositions. Sometimes harrowing, sometimes heartbreaking and occasionally joyous, Cat Power’s songs and performances are quietly if defiantly individual. Comparisons to other singer-songwriters aren’t worth the trouble. No one does Cat Power better than Cat Power.
Tickets for Cat Power are $39.50 to $69.50. Tickets may be purchased online at www.strazcenter.org, in person at the Straz Center Ticket Sales Office or by calling 813.229.STAR (7827) or 800.955.1045 outside Tampa Bay. Handling fees will apply.
The Straz Center is continuously evaluating health conditions and adjusting safety protocols. Guests should always visit strazcenter.org/safety before attending a performance.
