School Bus SafetyAs the 2022-2023 school year begins, it’s time to get used to sharing your commute with school buses again. It’s a good time to read up on the rules and regulations about sharing the road with school buses.All drivers moving in either direction on a two-way street must stop for a school bus displaying a stop signal, and must remain stopped until the road is clear of children AND the school bus stop arm is withdrawn.Source: flhsmv.govPenalties for passing stopped school bus include: Moving violation subject to citation;Requirement to complete a basic Driver Improvement Course upon conviction;Four points on your driver license; andMinimum fine of $165, if you pass on the side where children enter and exit, you will receive a minimum fine of $265. Summit Parking GarageOpen To Public at NightBeginning Monday, August 8th the general public will have access to 150 covered parking spaces located on the first two levels of the Summit Building’s parking garage. The Parking Agreement specifies that no less than 150 non-exclusive parking spaces will be available as free public parking from 6:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m., Monday through Friday and 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Interim City CommissionerThe Lakeland City Commission will be appointing an Interim City Commissioner to replace Commissioner Phillip Walker who must vacate his seat because he is running for state office.
