TAMPA, FL, July 2022: The Countdown Improv Festival, Tampa’s annual celebration of trio, duo, and solo improv comedy will feature 120 performers this year. Acts will include recognizable performers such as comedy legend Joe Bill, co-founder of the renowned Annoyance Theatre in Chicago, and Tampa Bay favorite Scott Swenson, creator of the award-winning show “PREACH!”
“Over the years of performing at the Countdown Improv Festival, I have seen some of the most original and cutting-edge stuff happen on those stages. It’s my favorite curated batch of shows that I’ve ever seen or been a part of,” said Matt Walker, a comedian, and musician from St. Petersburg, who will perform four separate times over the course of the festival weekend. “I’m floored by how the Countdown Improv Festival can best itself every year!”
Other headliners include Seattle-based TikTok star Sweaty Dee, and Diane Jorge, the creator of the solo improvised telenovela, Solovela, which is taking South Florida by storm. The Countdown Improv Festival will be hosted by founders Kelly Buttermore and Justin Peters, America’s foremost independent touring improv comedy duo.
“Justin and Kelly choose the best acts from around the country, focusing on all aspects of improv. Nothing is left out,” said Chicago-based improv comedian Patrick Newson, who will be performing on the festival mainstage this year with his comedy partner, Preston O’ffill. “No matter if you’re a beginner audience member or a fan of improv for years, at the Countdown Improv Festival, you’ll find something for everyone.”
