Willa’s – the neighborhood restaurant and bar from Tampa natives Nate Siegel and Merrin Jenkins – is hosting the Santa Teresa 1796 Rum “Daiq-Off” competition for the second time on Tuesday, July 19, at 5pm in celebration of National Daiquiri Day. Tickets for guests are available here for $25 in advance or $30 at the door. They include admission to the competition, two Santa Teresa drink tickets, and various appetizers.
Local Tampa bartenders will go head-to-head in a cocktail competition with three rounds: Classic Daiquiris, Hotel Nacional & Hemingway Daiquiri, and Old Fashioned. The cocktails will all be made with Santa Teresa 1796 Rum, Venezuela’s oldest producer of award-winning single-estate rum and will be judged on flavor, washline, and time. The winner will receive a $500 grand prize and the title of “Fastest Tins in Tampa.”
Willa’s lead bartender and reigning “Daiq-Off” champion Matthew Veronesi will serve as a judge alongside Willa’s bartender Jacob Ceciro, with DJ AJ Hall spinning vintage vinyl. Guests are invited to stick around after the competition and enjoy drinks and good company at this unique restaurant industry event.
