WINTER PARK – Claire Crossman, a 2022 graduate of Winter Park High School, who is headed to Palm Beach Atlantic University this summer, has been awarded the Tyler Rush Memorial Scholarship.
Crossman, daughter of local business leader John Crossman and his wife Angie, graduated with a 3.8 GPA and has been a lead vocalist and active choral student throughout high school, performing in its annual Night on Broadway three years in a row. Her latest performance in a leading role of The Music Man earned her awards and accolades, including the Josie Perez Most Promising Singer Award.
The Tyler Rush Memorial Scholarship and annual Broadway musical performance was hatched two decades ago by the choral department’s inspiration from student standout, Tyler Rush, who thrived in various musical pursuits, then tragically lost his life in a traffic accident. The WPHS choral department kept his passion and legacy going forward with the scholarship that’s promoted each year by the Night on Broadway fundraiser.
Crossman’s passions, in addition to singing and performing, include being a four-year member of the WPHS girls’ cross-country team, and politics. As the founder of her high school’s first Republican Club to promote values of respect and cooperation and provide resources and volunteer experiences to future voters, she was named the 2021 Rising Star by Orlando Republican Women Voters.
Since 1999, over $235,000 in Tyler Rush Memorial scholarships have been awarded to deserving chorus seniors.
