(May 9, 2022) The Women’s Resource Center (WRC) is offering a free online seminar, “Industry Certification for the Modern Workforce,” Wednesday, May 18, noon-1 p.m. The event is part of WRC’s Career Connections program that links women to quality jobs and funded training programs. Participants will learn about a technical certification program that focuses on computer basics and exploring high-tech industry careers. Upon completion of the course, participants receive a laptop computer thanks to funding by Bank of America. Panelists include Desh Bagley, director of the IT/Coding Academy at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota, and Jamie Kahns, SVP, a market executive at Bank of America. Deshjuana “Desh” Bagley is the director of the Coding Academy at State College of Florida-Manatee-Sarasota. Bagley leverages her educational background and industry experience to develop a premier industry certification training program that stays abreast of technology trends to meet industry needs. Her primary goal is to equip students of all ages with the skills needed to earn their desired jobs in information technology. Bagley also serves as the program delivery partner for FIRST LEGO League Robotics throughout a 17-county region for more than 100 teams and 500 volunteers. Her visionary leadership builds on the core principles of thinking big, innovative results, and continued learning.
Jamie Kahns, SVP, is a Bank of America Sarasota/Manatee market executive. She works closely with the local leadership team to create and deliver a focused strategic market plan, which aims to improve Bank of America’s ability to drive business, increase employee engagement, and positively impact our community. Kahns is an advocate for diversity and inclusion and recently earned a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Workplace certificate from the University of South Florida. In addition, she serves on several nonprofit boards, including the School District of Manatee County’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee, REACH Manatee’s Vision Council, CareerEdge, CareerSource Suncoast, and The Haven.
