4 Simple Ways to Boost Your Oral Hygiene and Health

May 9, 2022 by Post

Many people aren’t aware that their oral hygiene habits significantly impact their overall health. They often neglect the activities that help keep their teeth and gums healthy and disease-free. Brushing your teeth twice a day isn’t enough; you need to make sure your entire oral hygiene is on point.

Misaligned teeth are among the most common dental problems in various age groups across Canadian cities. Being home to more than 400 orthodontic clinics, the Winnipeg orthodontists recommend the right dental treatments like Invisalign and braces to treat crooked teeth. Despite the availability of all the oral health treatments, you must be in charge of your oral health. These four tips will ensure you boost your oral hygiene and health.

  1. Brush your teeth the right way

Since your childhood, you must have heard millions of times that you need to brush your teeth twice a day. Regularly brushing your teeth is an essential part of the oral care routine. Though many people regularly brush their teeth, they need to do it correctly. Poor brushing technique is as good as no brushing at all. Do not brush your teeth for the sake of it. Try to take your time and brush your teeth properly.

You should gently move your brush and use circular motions to clean your teeth. The circular motions don’t let the bristles hurt your teeth’ enamel and keep them irritation-free. Let the brush reach remote parts of your mouth, like the teeth and gums at the back and the inside areas of your teeth. Carefully brush your teeth to remove any visible plaque from your teeth. That way, you can protect your teeth from tartar and gingivitis.

  1. Consult orthodontists regularly

Brushing and flossing your teeth is not always enough, and some dental problems require professional inspection and diagnosis. Dental issues like crooked or misaligned teeth, enamel erosion, receding and bleeding gums are common dental problems faced by millions of people. Many other dental problems require an orthodontist’s professional diagnosis to take the right treatment path.

A study surveyed 170 Winnipeg residents and found that 97% of participants brushed their teeth more than once a day. Yet, 77% of them needed immediate dental assistance to deal with dental problems. That means brushing your teeth regularly isn’t enough; you need to consult Winnipeg orthodontists to diagnose any early signs of dental problems, so you can deal with them before they turn into a permanent loss of teeth.

  1. Clean your tongue as well

Oral health goes beyond the scope of teeth and gums. Your tongue is a crucial part of your mouth and plays a key role in your oral health. That’s why you need to clean your tongue as well regularly. When you eat food, the food particles are left behind on your tongue. If the particles stay there for long, they start decomposing, leading to mouth odour and infections.

The lack of cleaning can also develop plaque on your tongue, covering your tongue with white and smelly substances. Therefore you must clean your tongue when you brush your teeth. Many toothbrushes have tongue cleaners embedded on the back of the brush. You can use it or get a separate tongue cleaner to clean your tongue and keep your mouth away from mouth ulcers and many other dental problems.

  1. Use mouthwash after brushing your teeth

Mouthwash offers a lot of benefits for your dental care. It reduces the number of mouth acids from your mouth, cleans remote areas of your mouth and remineralizes your teeth. It is also an effective dental cleaning solution for children and elders who face difficulties while brushing.

Oral hygiene is something you shouldn’t put on hold. If you face any signs of pain, cavities or teeth erosion, you should consult an orthodontist at the earliest. It will reduce the possibility of the disease spreading and help you control the damage.
